What we fabricate and install
Most of our steel sits inside a wider job: a warehouse that needs a storage deck, a shop that needs a shopfront frame, a kitchen that needs shelving that survives a wash-down.
Structural steel for platforms and support frames
Column, beam and deck frames for storage mezzanines, plant platforms, walkways and access decks. Base plates, anchor layout, stair access and edge protection come in the same package. Structural sizing comes from a stamped consultant drawing, and we build to that, not a sketch.
Staircases and handrail
Straight flights, dog-leg and spiral stairs in mild steel or stainless, with chequer plate, grating or timber treads. Balustrade in tube, flat bar, glass-clamped or mesh infill. Guarding heights and loadings come from the approved drawing for your building, not a standard detail we reuse.
Canopies and shade frames
Entrance canopies, walkway covers, car park shades, plant screens and roof frames. These sit outdoors permanently, so the finish specification and the drainage detail matter more than the section size.
Gates and railings
Sliding and swing gates, wicket gates, boundary railings, villa gates and service yard barriers. We fabricate the frame, fit the hardware, and set the tracks or hinges to the ground level you have, rarely the level on the drawing.
Shopfront and display frames
Steel and aluminium frames for retail units, display plinths, hanging rails, back-panel frames and signage sub-frames. These usually pair with joinery, so metal and timber get set out together rather than arriving from two trades who never spoke.
Equipment stands and kitchen stainless
Condenser and plant stands, pump and tank bases, anti-vibration frames, service gantries. In kitchens: preparation tables, sinks, wall and undershelving, pot racks and exhaust hood frames, in stainless with welds ground back so there is no crevice for grease.
Brackets and supports
The unglamorous half of the trade. Pipe and duct supports, cable tray brackets, cantilever arms, fixing plates, ladder rungs, access hatch frames, and repair pieces cut to match a part that failed. Small quantities welcome.
Why owners choose Samra for metal work
Samra Facilities is a Dubai maintenance, fit-out and renovation contractor. Steel is one of our trades, nearly always fitted alongside another.
One contract for fabrication and installation
Plenty of metal fabricators build to your drawing and stop at the workshop door. The gap between a delivered frame and a fitted frame is where site problems live: the slab is not flat, the block wall will not take the anchor, the opening is out of square. We do both halves, so those are ours to solve.
Coordination with the trades around it
Our in-house electrical, plumbing and duct teams work the same sites, and site work is run as site work: hot works permits, fire watch, floor protection, dust and spark containment. When a support frame carries a duct run, or a mezzanine has to clear a sprinkler line, that gets resolved on the drawing rather than with a grinder later.
A contractor with a record here
Samra is women-owned, has worked in Dubai since 2015, and is licensed and insured. We share the licence and insurance details with clients directly on request.
From survey to installation
Drawing or site survey through to installation and making good. Every step planned before anything is cut.
Drawing or site survey
With a consultant drawing we fabricate to it. Without one, we come and measure. Anything fitting between two existing surfaces is measured on site before we cut, because openings in finished buildings are rarely square.
Shop drawing and cutting list
We produce a shop drawing showing sections, connections, fixing points and finish, and you sign it off. From that comes the cutting list: every member, length, plate, fixing and consumable. It is what we price and buy against, and what stops scope drifting upward once fabrication starts.
Fabrication off site
Cutting, drilling, jigging and welding happen in the workshop, where a frame can be set square on a bench and checked before it goes anywhere. Anything too large to carry is built in sections with the joints planned in advance.
Welding quality
Welds are matched to the material: continuous where the joint is structural or has to be watertight, stitched where it does not, ground back where it will be seen. Stainless is welded with dedicated consumables and tools kept clear of mild steel, because carbon particles from a shared grinding disc rust as brown speckles across a clean stainless surface within weeks.
Finish before delivery
Galvanising, powder coating or paint goes on in the right sequence for the material, which usually means after fabrication and before delivery, with touch-up reserved for site-welded joints.
Installation and making good
Setting out, anchor drilling with the slab scanned first where post-tensioning is a risk, levelling, fixing, hardware adjustment, touch-up of site joints, and clearing the offcuts.
A bad weld is rarely one that fails outright. It is undercut, porosity or a cold joint that passes a quick look, gets coated, gets installed, then shows as a rust line down a handrail or a sagging bracket once the space is occupied. Fixing it then means hot works in a finished room, sheeting over new flooring, and re-coating where the colour never quite matches. Cheaper to grind it out and re-run it on the bench.
Materials, finish and corrosion in Dubai
Dubai is hard on metal for reasons that have less to do with the steel than with what covers it. Salt-laden air near the coast, high humidity and daily condensation on shaded surfaces will find any gap in a coating. Rust starts at the edges, the welds and the fixings, where coating thickness is lowest.
Mild steel
The workhorse for structure, frames and supports. Strong, weldable, easy to modify, cheapest per kilo, and with no corrosion resistance of its own. The finish is its whole defence.
Galvanised steel
Carries a zinc layer that protects the steel sacrificially, so a scratch does not immediately become a rust bloom. It is applied after fabrication, since welding through a galvanised surface burns the coating off exactly where the joint needs it most. Hollow sections need vent and drain holes so the zinc flows and air escapes during dipping. For anything permanently outdoors, this is our default.
Stainless steel
For metal that is visible, wet, or in contact with food. Grade 304 is fine indoors and dry. Grade 316 contains molybdenum and holds up better against chlorides, which makes it the sensible choice near the coast, around pools and in wash-down kitchen areas. Even 316 can develop surface tea staining in coastal air. That is cosmetic and cleans off, and we say so before installation rather than after.
Aluminium
Suits lightweight frames, louvres and trims. It needs its own welding process and filler and cannot be welded to steel. Where aluminium meets steel, or stainless fixings go into a mild steel frame, dissimilar metals plus moisture set up galvanic corrosion, so we isolate the joint with a washer, sleeve or coating.
Choosing the finish
Galvanising for structural and outdoor work where appearance is secondary. Powder coating over galvanising, a duplex system, where the item is outdoors and has to look right, such as a villa gate or an entrance canopy. Powder coating alone on pre-treated steel indoors. Paint where the item will be site-welded or modified later. What we specify goes on the quotation in writing with the colour reference, so a coating swap cannot happen quietly.
Detailing decides lifespan. Water sitting inside a closed hollow section rusts it from the inside where nobody looks. A base plate bedded onto a wet external floor wicks moisture into the column foot. A fixing through a waterproofed deck becomes a leak long before it becomes a rust problem. We settle those at drawing stage with our waterproofing team.
Approvals, structural design and building access
Most metal work needs no authority submission at all. A gate, a bracket, shelves, a canopy inside a private plot: fabricate, fit, done.
That changes when the steel adds floor area, carries load, or crosses a fire or services strategy. A storage mezzanine in a warehouse or shop is the usual example. It needs a stamped structural design from a licensed consultant, a building-permit submission for the added area to whichever authority governs your plot, and a Civil Defence review, since the deck affects sprinkler coverage, escape routes and whether the steel itself needs fire protection. Where the frame ties into power or lighting, that is coordinated by our electrical team.
Samra coordinates the Dubai Municipality, DEWA and Civil Defence submissions as part of the contract, the same way we run them on a fit-out. What we do not do is produce structural calculations in house. If you have no stamped drawing for a load-bearing element, we say so at survey stage and the design is arranged through a licensed structural consultant before anything is cut.
Building access is the other half. Towers and malls want a works NOC from building management before drilling, a hot works permit for site welding, lift bookings for long members, and often a night window. Those usually decide the installation date more than fabrication does.
How we price steel fabrication
Steel is quoted from the cutting list, not a rate per square metre, because two frames of the same size can differ enormously in what they take to build.
What moves the number
- Material and section. Grade and section, set by the structural requirement. Stainless costs several times mild steel for the same shape, and 316 more than 304, so we specify it only where it earns its place.
- Weight. Steel is bought by weight, and the cutting list gives it, so the material line is arithmetic rather than an estimate.
- Fabrication hours. Straight cuts and bolted connections are quick. Curved work, tight tolerances, mitred corners, welds ground flush and polished stainless are slow, and that labour is usually the larger half of the item.
- Finish. Galvanising is charged by weight at the plant, powder coating by area and colour. A duplex system costs both. Paint is cheapest to apply, dearest to maintain.
- Installation conditions. Ground floor with vehicle access and a full working day is one price. Twelfth floor with a lift booking, hot works permit and night shift is another, for the same frame.
How the quotation reads
You get a written quotation broken down against the cutting list, so material, fabrication, finish and installation read as separate lines rather than one lump. Permit fees pass through at cost. Once the shop drawing is signed, the price holds unless the scope changes.
Workmanship and material warranties
Two layers across every steel and metal job. Workmanship on fabrication and installation is ours. Material warranties on coatings, ironmongery and motors pass through from each manufacturer.
Workmanship warranty
Steel and metal work carries our standard six-month workmanship warranty, covering fabrication and installation: weld integrity, fixings, alignment, hardware operation and adhesion of the coating we applied. If a gate drops or a weld shows a defect in that period, we put it right.
Material warranties
Material warranties are separate and pass through from the manufacturer. Galvanising, powder coating, ironmongery, gate motors, locks and glass carry their own terms, confirmed in the quotation for your job rather than promised on a web page.
Two things sit outside any warranty and we would rather say so plainly. Surface tea staining on stainless in coastal air is a cleaning matter, not a defect. And corrosion that starts because an item was drilled, cut or welded on site later by somebody else without re-coating the damage is not something we can stand behind. Where an item needs periodic cleaning or re-coating, we say so at quotation stage, and it can fold into an annual maintenance contract.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work from my drawing, or do you need to survey?
Either. With a consultant or architect drawing we fabricate to it directly. Without one, we survey and produce a shop drawing for you to approve before cutting. Anything fitting between existing surfaces gets measured on site whatever the drawing says.
Do you install what you fabricate, or is that separate?
We install. That is the difference between us and a workshop that only supplies. If you have been searching for metal fabricators near me and collecting quotes that end at delivery, ask who levels the frame, drills the anchors and patches the wall afterwards.
Which steel should I use outdoors?
For structure and frames, galvanised steel, with a powder coat over the galvanising where it also has to look right. Bare mild steel with paint alone will not last outdoors here, particularly near the coast. Stainless is for visible, wet or food-contact items, and near the sea that means grade 316 rather than 304.
Can you match an existing gate, railing or handrail?
Usually. We take dimensions and photographs of the existing item, match the section profile and infill pattern as closely as the market allows, and set the new colour against the old on site. An exact match to a coating weathered for years is not realistic, so we say whether the repair will read as a repair.
Do you take on small jobs?
Yes. A single bracket, a gate repair, a set of shelves or one replacement stair tread are all normal work, often handled alongside our handyman team with the metal fabricated to suit.
Do I need approval for a mezzanine floor?
If it adds floor area or carries load, yes. It needs a stamped structural design from a licensed consultant, a building-permit submission to whichever authority governs the plot, a Civil Defence review covering sprinklers, escape and fire protection of the steel, plus the landlord or building management NOC. Most of our fabrication goes to Jebel Ali and Al Quoz, and a Jebel Ali plot often answers to Trakhees rather than to Dubai Municipality, which is why we confirm the authority from the property documents rather than the address. See mezzanine floors. We coordinate the submissions.
How long does fabrication take?
It depends on the material, the finish and the workshop queue, so the programme goes in writing with your quotation rather than as a number here. Galvanising adds time because the work leaves the workshop for a plant, and access windows and permits often govern the installation date.
Areas we cover
Fabrication is delivered from our workshop, so access matters more than the district. Most of the volume goes to Al Quoz and Jebel Ali, the two workshop and warehouse belts. The architectural work, balustrades, feature staircases and pergolas, goes to Dubai Hills Estate, Arabian Ranches, Palm Jumeirah and Downtown Dubai. We deliver anywhere in Dubai. Coverage on our areas page.
Send us the drawing and get a BOQ
Send us the space. A photograph, rough dimensions and what the metal has to do is enough to start, or send the drawing if you have one. Tell us whether it sits indoors, outdoors or near the coast, because that decides the finish before anything else.
You get a site survey, a shop drawing to approve, and a written BOQ priced line by line against the cutting list, covering material, fabrication, finish and installation. WhatsApp is the quickest way to reach the team, or use the contact page to send drawings by email.
