Rewireable fuses were the standard decades ago. They protect cable, slowly; they do not protect people. If your panel takes fuse wire, the upgrade conversation is overdue regardless of how well it seems to work.

The old panel comes out, a modern consumer unit goes in, MCBs sized per circuit, RCD or RCBO protection on the circuits that need it, and every way labelled in plain words.
MCB, RCD and RCBO replacement
Failed or mis-sized breakers swapped, RCDs that will not hold or will not trip investigated properly, and RCBOs fitted where a circuit deserves its own earth-fault protection instead of sharing. We fit ABB, Schneider, Hager, Siemens and Legrand protection, matched to the board you already have, because mixing breaker systems inside one panel is a shortcut with consequences.
DB dressing
The trade name for putting a working-but-messy board right: conductors re-routed and terminated properly, doubled terminals split out, ways labelled, the panel left readable. It is the cheapest upgrade a neglected board can get, and it makes every future fault minutes quicker to find.
Load balancing and spare ways
Loads spread sensibly across phases, heavy circuits on their own ways, and spare capacity left ready for the next project instead of the board being filled to the last slot.
Thermal-imaged checks and full testing
A thermal pass finds the warm terminal before it becomes a burnt one. Every job at the board ends with an RCD trip test and an earth-fault check, results documented.

DB board questions
What is db dressing?
Re-terminating and re-routing the conductors inside a distribution board so it is tidy, safe and readable, doubled terminals split, ways labelled, cable dressed into the panel properly. The board works the same on a good day; on a bad day, a dressed board is the difference between a five-minute fault trace and an evening in the dark.
How long is the power off during a board replacement?
The switchover window is agreed before the day and kept as short as the job allows, most villa board replacements are done inside a working day with the outage limited to the changeover itself, not the whole visit.
My RCD trips every time it rains or the ac runs hard. Is the RCD faulty?
Sometimes, and sometimes it is doing exactly its job on a circuit with real leakage from moisture or a failing appliance. We test rather than assume: the RCD on the tester, then the circuits it protects. Swapping the RCD without testing is how the same fault comes back next month.
Do I need a bigger board for an EV charger?

Is an old fuse box actually dangerous, or just old?
It is legal history, not current practice. The honest framing: a fuse box protects the cable eventually; modern RCD/RCBO protection trips in milliseconds to protect people. Between those two sentences is the reason we recommend replacing them, without theatre, and with the price in writing first.
